Allakabo Group's story
The Allakabo group is solely made up of monogamous women. On average, they are 38 years old and have four children. They all live in the Kanadjiguila commune of Mandé/Kati circle and know one another through neighborhood ties. The group members run small businesses selling clothing, milk and vegetables for sauces. With the goal of increasing their business funds, the group members decided to work with Soro Yiriwaso and are on their third group loan cycle. Ms. Fatoumata (the woman at the far left of the photo) has a great reputation in the sale of clothing (damask, light cloth, and traditional, colorful wax cloths) of various qualities. She expects to use her loan to buy 15 meters of damask, 10 meters of light cloth, and 10 traditional, colorful wax cloths at wholesale in Bamako. The resale will take place at retail to a clientele largely made up of women. With this loan, Ms. Fatoumata hopes to make an average monthly profit of 90,000 francs CFA which will be used to reinvest in her business. Through her relationship with Soro Yiriwaso, her objective is to buy a plot of land to use for housing.
