Eric's story

Eric, aged 49 years, is married and has eight children. His children are aged 30, 28, 25, 23, 21, 19, 18 and 12 years. He is dealing in goats, having started trading in 2004. He started the business to have a clear source of income. In addition to the goat-trading business, Eric is a primary teacher. As a teacher, he earns a monthly salary to supplement his income, which he uses to meet his family's needs. He does the goat-trading business in his rural area of central Rushozi, in Kyangyenyi Sheema District. His customers are goat traders.

He has applied for a loan of UGX 1,200,000 (one million, two hundred thousand shillings) to buy more goats for trading. He is a very hard-working man, working seven hours a day and six days a week. Hard work has helped him greatly to thrive in the market, despite the stiff competition he faces from other businessmen dealing in goats. Despite the competition, he hopes to make more profits after buying more goats for trade using the loan money. He hopes to boost his business and, in the long run, fulfill his dream of educating all his children, for a better future.
