A loan helped with labour costs, and to buy products for the earth, small farming equipment and seeds.

Benkadi 5 Group's story

The ten members of the Benkadi 5 group are married women who on average are 32 years old with three children. They all live in traditional families in Fintegue, one of the villages in the Karaba commune in the San circle, in the fourth administrative region of Mali. They collaborate with the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution in order to manage their farming affairs during the winter. This is their third loan from the institution, the previous loans were repaid on time. Ata grows peanuts. She is sitting in the middle in the photo. With her loan, she plans to buy earth products, seeds, and small agricultural tools and to pay for labour costs for the exploitation of 0.5 hectares. She will sell the production in the village and in Karaba after the harvest to a mixed clientele. She hopes to make an average profit of 18 500FCFA at the end of the season. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also help her husband with the daily expenses.
