Benkadi 2 Group's story
The ten members of the Benkadi 2 group are married women and they are, on average, 34 years old with three children each. They all live in traditional families in Fintegue, a village located in the commune of Karaba, Cercle of San (fourth administrative region of Mali). They work with Kiva's partner, the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to successfully carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are on their third loan with the institution and have duly repaid their previous loans. Fatouma, a member of the group, grows groundnut. In the photo, she is the woman in middle of the front row. She is planning to use her loan to buy some agricultural inputs, seeds, small farming equipment, and also to cover her plowing costs to maintain one hectare of land. After the harvest, she will sell her crop to both men and women, in her village and in Karaba. She is expecting to make an average profit of 22,500 CFA francs at the end of the farming season. She will use her profit to repay her loan and to help her husband with the day-to-day expenses.
