Tiessiri 1 Group's story

The ten members of the Tiessiri 1 group are married women, who average 48 years of age with five children each; they all live in traditional families in N'tiesso, one of the villages in Koutiala in Mali's third administrative region. They collaborate with the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, so that they can run their farming activities smoothly during the winter season. They are on their third loan with the institution and the previous loans have been repaid in full. Koniba, who is standing at the end on the left of the photo, grows groundnut. With her loan, she is planning to buy inputs, seeds and farming materials, as well as to pay for labor to farm and hoe a hectare of land. Once harvested, the produce will be sold in Koutiala to a mixed customer base. She is expecting to make an average profit of 170,000FCFA at the end of the season. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and also help out her husband with the daily outgoings.
