Nemboi Inn Group's story
The featured borrower of the group, Mrs. Nemboi, lives in a remote area of Manipur. She is 37 years old and a daily wage earner. She works in a quarry near her village, where they mine for stones and pebbles. Stone mining is very popular in the area, and most of the people from her village are engaged in this occupation. The stones are being used for building purposes and construction of houses. She supports her children from the income she gets from this occupation and manages to send them to school, too. Her husband is a farmer engaged in shifting cultivation. They have been working very hard to be self-reliant. The area that they live in has an insufficient power supply, which disturbs their day-to-day life, especially after sunset. Sometimes the current goes off for two to three consecutive days, which becomes the main problem of the people. The study hours after sunset for the children are affected by the present power situation, which leads to low academic performance. After availing the mini solar loan for house lighting, the children are now able to study well with no more disturbances from power cuts. Nemboi hopes that her children will study well and get decent jobs in the future to support their parents. She is very grateful to Kiva for lending such a loan. The other members of the group also face the same problem of insufficient power. In order to overcome this, they want to avail the loan so that they can buy mini solar home lighting systems that will provide them light after sunset for their homes.
