Esther's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more tomatoes, onions and carrots to sell.

Esther's story

Esther is 18 years old and lives in the town of Bungokho in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past eight months, Esther has been working hard to manage her small vegetable business, which sells vegetables.

To help expand the business, Esther has requested a loan of 200,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more tomatoes, onions and carrots to sell, and will help Esther to generate greater profits and improve on her family's standard of living. Esther hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land so as to start planting her own vegetables.

Esther is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
