Sonia's story

Sonia is 43 years old. She lives with her partner and has three children. She works making skirts. She is a kind, funny, enterprising, strong, hardworking, tolerant and talkative person. She works in an area called “16 de julio”, where there are a lot of commercial activities. The area is located 4,000 m [around 13,000 ft.] above sea level. Aymara is the main language spoken, but Spanish is used for making business. Sonia is short and dark skinned. She has dark and long hair, and dark eyes. She works making polleras (traditional skirts), which are worn by women who stick to traditional costumes (cholitas). Her partner (the man in the picture) works with her and is in charge of selling the polleras in a stall that is closely located. Sonia wants to improve her living conditions. She wants to make some renovations at home, where she also has her workshop. To achieve this goal, she needs to increase her stock in order to better serve her customers and generate more income. This is why Sonia is requesting a loan to buy wholesale fabrics. She will use the profits to renovate her house.
