Julieth's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped the pay for the application fees for a Master of Educational Psychology in a university abroad.
Julieth is 22 years old and was born in Barranquilla, Atlántico, a town located in northern Colombia. She is the eldest daughter in her family. Her two younger siblings are in high school, her mother is a professor in the Universidad del Norte, and her father is currently unemployed. Despite the economic hardships that they faced, Julieth was able to obtain a full scholarship that allowed her to study Psychology in the Universidad del Norte. She earned her professional degree in February of 2014, finishing at the top of her class. Julieth's primary goal is to be able to complete her Masters in Educational Psychology in a university abroad. In order to achieve this, she is seeking support from Kiva because it is the only way she will be able to cover the costs of the language exams and the university application fees. Once she completes her degree and returns to Colombia, Julieth plans to work in the national bilingual programs, creating projects in the region with high school students seeking to decentralize language education through quality public education throughout all of the vulnerable regions. Her family has always been the foundation for all of the projects that she has started. During the entirety of her life, they have given her unconditional support. In this new dream of hers, it has not been any different, and although they do not have the financial resources to help her, they have supported her in different ways such as helping her to find the best programs in the best universities, which she values immensely. Education is one of the pillars on which the main characteristics of a society are built. For this reason, it is a subject that deserves special attention when seeking a solution to the current crises in Colombia. Therefore, it is worth it for professionals to work in educational systems to develop capable leaders to generate positive change through them by taking into account their individual history, qualities, limitations, interests and specific motivators. The opportunity to study in a foreign country where there are different educational models and ideas will allow her to nourish herself with the things that have been effective in different settings, and different ways of facing problems and situations so that later she can develop and implement coherent solutions within the context of Colombia, employing what she have acquired to combine international perspectives with the national reality. Currently, she is working part-time in a business that focuses on psychological studies of consumption. She coordinate an educational psychology project. At the same time, she is working as a field researcher for a research study in the Universidad del Norte. However, she divides the money that she earns between helping with the household expenses and saving to reach her dream. Unfortunately, these savings are not enough to cover all of the necessary expenses to fulfill the requirements to be accepted in a university. For this reason, she is seeking support from Kiva to complete the language requirements and the paperwork to enroll in a masters program.
