A loan helped Purchase pesticides for her flower fields.
Sonia is 26 years old, lives with her partner, and has 2 children. Her husband works in a mine and returns home every once in a while. From the time she was 15 years old she worked on a small farm helping her parents. When she became engaged and had her children there was a time when she didn’t often go to the fields because of her small children. Now she wakes up at 5:00 a.m., prepares the food, and goes to her land where she grows flowers, like gladiolas. During harvest time she looks for people to help her. Planting flowers is most profitable to her because during times of festivities, like October, she can sell each bundle of 12 dozen flowers for 90 PEN. When the time of festivities pass she negotiates to 30 PEN a bundle and she plants potatoes and peas, but in small quantities. This working mother belongs to cycle VII, that is to say she is on her 7th loan, and during this time has been punctual in her payments. With this loan, she will buy pesticides that cost 280.00 PEN a kilo. These pesticides will help maintain the leaves of her flowers clean and with lush buds, and she will use the rest to employ people to help her harvest.
