Mariama's Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to purchase sacks of peanuts, pay for processing, and resell the product by the pail.
Mariama's Group's story
The ’banc villageois’ was created on May 15, 2008, when it was inaugurated. It is composed of women who have been living together for over two decades; they share values of solidarity and mutual assistance. Their main work involves small-scale commerce, and they also farm during the rainy season. Ms. Mariama (standing in the middle) is the featured borrower of the group. She is a married mother of a boy. Despite her young age of 26, she embodies the dynamism of the new generation of the group and is very energetic in her commerce. She processes peanuts to be sold and purchases manufactured products on the way back home to be resold in the villages. With her new loan, she plans on purchasing sacks of peanuts at 7,000 francs CFA each, paying for processing at a cost of 1,500 francs, and then reselling the product by the 20-kg pail at 15,000 francs. Her profits will enable her to grow her savings, to overcome her personal needs, and to support her husband in managing family expenses.
