Mwajuma Mohamed's Kanga Group's story

MwaJ. M., 38 and single with two children, aged 11 and 6, operates a business selling kangas and vitenge (traditional Swahili fabrics) door-to-door. She started this business in 2002 and is able to earn a monthly profit of about $122.

This will be MwaJ.’s second loan from Tujijenge Tanzania, the first one, since repaid, having been used to increase the stock of her business. She intends to use this new loan for the same purpose.

MwaJ. will share the money with her loan group, Kanga, whose 20 members hold each other accountable in repaying their loans. In the picture, MwaJ. is standing in the center and holding a blue purse.
