but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy fertilizers and herbicides, and to cover plowing costs.
Tiormoula C Group's story
The ten members of the TIORMOULA C group are married women and they are, on average, 37 years old with four children each. Most of them live in traditional families in Ifola, a village located in the commune of Farakala, Cercle of Sikasso (third administrative region of Mali). They work with Kiva's partner, the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to successfully carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are on their eighth farming loan with the institution, and their previous loans have been duly repaid. Mariam Zie, a member of the group, grows groundnut. In the photo, she is the woman in the middle of the standing row. She is planning to use her loan to buy two 50-kilo bags of fertilizers, one can of herbicide, and to cover the cost of plowing on 0.5 hectare of land. After the harvest, she sells her crops in her village and in Sikasso. Her customers are both men and women and they pay her in cash or on credit. She is expecting to make an average profit of 73,000 CFA francs per planting season. Mariam Zie will use her profit to repay her loan and the interest and to help her husband with the day-to-day expenses.
