Benkadi Iii Group's story
Members of the Benkadi III group are married women who on average are 35 years old with three children, all living in polygamous families in N'Gola, part of the Kebila commune in the Kolondiéba circle, one of the prefectures in the third administrative region of Mali. They work with the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are on their fifth loan with the institution, and their past four loans have been fully repaid. The featured crops are rice and groundnuts with Fanta, the person standing in the middle of the photo. With her loan, she will buy inputs, seeds and pay for plowing to cultivate one hectare (about 2.5 acres). After harvest the crop is sold locally in Kebila to a clientele composed of men and women. Fanta hopes to make profits of 105,000 CFA francs, enabling her to pay off her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
