Nyebu - Bi Yoona - Nyohini Group's story

Meri is an active woman, 45 years old, from Nyohini, an area of Tamale, the Northern Regional capital city in Ghana. She is married and has four children. She is the first person sitting on the right hand as you face their group picture . Meri is a member of a local rice and shea butter-processing group who has been doing the business for the last 17 years. Their group is called ‘Nyebu - Bi Yoona - Nyohini ‘ She makes good profits from the business since she and every member of her group have been trained by Grameen Ghana and SNV on improved ways of processing shea butter and milling locally produced paddy rice for local market in Ghana. Their milled rice is sold and consumed around Ghana and the shea butter for the export market. She also sells her parboiled milled rice to boarding schools. Meri is always in business. Meri and the group have asked for a loan of GHS 11,500. Her share of the loan will help her to buy and process six bags of paddy rice and shea butter. By so doing, she would earn more income, repay this loan and support her children’s educational needs.
