Panimatzam Group's story
Zoila is 47 years old (in the photo, she is the third person from the left in the front row, wearing a white blouse and pink sweater). She lives in the municipality of San Andrés Semetabaj, in the department of Sololá. She has four children; the older three are already married and live in their own homes, and the youngest is 17 years old. Zoila has worked for 15 years growing corn and beans. She comments that these crops are resistant to climatic changes, and they reliably provide her with good earnings. They are products in great demand because they are the basic foods of the community. In addition she also grows Chinese peas and broccoli. Zoila needs a loan to buy supplies (seeds, organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer, among others) for her corn and bean crops. Zoila's dream is to increase the quantity of her crops so that she can generate more earnings and cover her family's expenses.
