Al-Amel Nokom Group's story

This group is called Al-Amel Nokom. It is comprised of six women from Sana'a, Yemen. They are requesting a group loan of YER 300,000 from Al-Amal Microfinance Bank (AMB). Jamila is the leader of the group. She is a 34-year-old, married woman, with six children. She lives with her family in their own house. Jamila works as a housewife and she is very dynamic woman. Her husband is an employee in a public sector. The salary that he receives from his work is good, but it is not enough to renovate their old house. Their house needs renovation from the inside. Most of the rooms are not renovated, in addition to the kitchen and the bathroom. This reflects negatively on Jamila and she feels ashamed, especially if any guests or visitors come to her house. For this reason, she applied for a loan of YER 50,000 from AMB in order to purchase cement to renovate the house from the inside. Jamila hopes to renovate all of her house and to rent it in order to improve the living standards of her family.
