A loan helped to purchase sustainably harvested teakwood in bulk.
Maria is a Guatemalan artisan who works alongside her husband Jan to craft wooden tableware and accessories. She would like to invest in a bulk purchase of sustainably harvested teakwood. Maria and Jan have been selling through NOVICA since 2011. This is their story: "We opened our own workshop in 2008 to craft furniture and decorative items that are simple and of good taste. Our designs express the passion that we have for art and for what we do, which is inspired by nature and the beauty of wood. We work with traditional techniques, which includes the materials and style we use for the joinery, the natural finish and the respect for the wood's grain. Together, we craft beautiful pieces from fine, sustainably harvested hardwoods, and we also direct a foundation that helps over 500 children." "This microcredit will be of great benefit to our business, allowing us to stock up on raw materials and create new product lines. Many thanks for supporting artisans like us!"
