Tierra Fertil (Cuenca) Group's story
The “Tierra Fértil” [Fertile Land] loan group is comprised of eight women that live in the areas surrounding Valle de Cuenca, a parish characterized by its beautiful landscapes. The people are engaged in business, raising animals, and farming, and still maintain the culture and traditions of their parents. The group members are happy, hardworking people that work in different activities, which allow them to contribute to their household expenses and get their families ahead. One of the members of the group is Patricia. She is 31 years old, married, and has two children, ages 10 and 7, who attend the local school. Her husband sells gas, and they are renting as they don’t have their own home. Patricia has worked in the family business, selling gas, for four years. She works from Monday to Saturday, without a fixed schedule. She will invest the money from the loan to pay for a plot of land that they will buy to build their house. Her goal is to have her own house. The small photo is of a member of the group who couldn’t be present when the group photo was taken.
