Flor Kantuta Group's story
The Flor Kantuta communal bank is entering its fifth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Panamericana. It consists of eight members and is headed by an executive board where Mrs. Bertha is President. The various members of the community bank work in basket weaving, macramé woven blankets, and sewing bags, selling clothes and coca, and general neighborhood and transportation businesses. The loans benefit small microentrepreneurs where Mrs. Bertha is a member. She has been a member of Pro Mujer for five years after she accepted an invitation from the institution. Today she has a grocery store business which she started several years ago, as this business was highly sought after in the La Paz market. The loan will allow her to earn increased capital, as she can buy wholesale groceries from vendors of the city of El Alto and subsequently sell them in her own retail space. This type of work allows her to generate resources to support her family as she is married and has three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes the training and health care offered by the institution.
