Djagne Group's story

Made up of 6 women, the Djagnè group's members are, in general, married in monogamous households. On average, they are 36 years old and have 6 children. They all live in Djelibougou, one of the neighborhoods of Bamako. They know one another through parental ties, neighborhood relations, and their revenue-making businesses. The members of the group sell vegetables (cucumbers and lettuce), peanuts, tubers, and smoked fish. In the interest of building up their inventory, the members of the group decided to appeal to Soro Yiriwaso and are on their third group loan cycle. Ms. Adiaratou (the woman seated in the center of the photo) has a good reputation in the sale of vegetables (cucumbers and lettuce). She expects to use her loan to buy 6 bags of cucumbers and 5 baskets of lettuce. They stock up on vegetables at the market in Médine. The resale takes place for cash and for credit in Djelibougou to a clientele made up largely of women. With this loan, Ms. Adiaratou expects to make an average monthly profit of 140,000 francs CFA which will be used to ensure her children's education and healthcare.
