God Bless Us Group's story
In the photo are members of the “God Bless Us” group. They are small-scale businesswomen based in Bo, Sierra Leone’s second capital city, in the eastern part of the country. This is the first loan these entrepreneurs are accessing from SMT/Kiva lenders. With this loan, they will be able to expand their individual businesses, make more profit and consequently improve their standard of living. The featured leader of this group is Hannah. Hannah is single with two children. Hannah sells drinks and cooked food and has been a businesswoman for 15 years now. Thanks to Hannah’s business, she is able to pay school fees for her children. Although she faces challenges in her business, such as limited capital, Hannah dreams of becoming a self-sufficient businesswoman. She has applied for this loan to expand her business. She will use the loan to buy drinks and cooking ingredients in bulk so that she won't have to pay retail prices. In this way, she will cook a larger quantity of food for sale and make better profit, consequently achieving her dream of self-sufficiency.
