A loan helped to cover the cost of an ice cream machine.

Ruqiya's story

Ruqiya is a 45-year-old married woman living in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. She is the mother of four children. Her husband owns an ice cream shop in the market. Nowadays, as summer season has started in Pakistan, his customers demand more ice cream. To cope with demand of his customers, he purchases basic raw ingredients for ice cream such as cream, condensed milk, butterfat, sugar, flavorings, fruit purees and extracts, cocoa powder, nuts, cookie pieces, and cookie dough. He wants to purchase an ice cream making machine for the business but does not have sufficient funds to cover the cost of a machine. Therefore, Ruqiya requested a loan from Kiva’s field partner BRAC Pakistan, so that her husband would be able to buy an ice cream machine for his shop. She hopes that lenders will support him and this loan will prove productive for her husband's business as well. Ruqiya is very thankful to Kiva and BRAC Pakistan.
