Mamacha Del Carmen-Vilcabamba Group's story
María Dolores and several neighbors make up the "Mamacha del Carmen" communal bank. The majority of the neighbors live in the community of Vilcabamba. Vilcabamba is in the district of Caicay, within the province of Paucartambo in the department of Cusco. María Dolores is 54 years old. She has two sons and lives in the same city where she was born. María Dolores has a farm where she produces white corn. She has worked on this farm, located in the community of Vilcabamba, since the year 1987. She also earns her living raising young animals like guinea pigs and hens. María Dolores needs the loan to purchase more young guinea pigs. She belongs to Asociación Arariwa's "Mamacha del Carmen" communal bank. The communal bank is in its third year of operation, and it is going very well for them. It is made up of people who are always looking for opportunities to get ahead and provide their children with a better future through their daily efforts. The members work in agriculture, artisanal crafts, food sales, ranching, raising young animals, and more. (The person who appears in the bottom of the photograph arrived late to the meeting.)
