Janata's story

Janata is an enterprising woman. She lives in Kholaigram in Jalpaiguri with her husband and children. Janata's husband Abinash, 42 years old, is engaged in an agribusiness. They have farmland of their own where he grows betel leaves to sell in the wholesale market. Janata also contributes her efforts to growing betel leaves. It requires a great effort to grow betel leaves. Betel leaves, locally known as ‘Pan’, is a kind of mouth freshener used especially in rural areas. There is a great demand for betel leaves in their village. Thus, they have chosen this business. Now Janata is requesting a loan to grow her business. She will cultivate a new crop of betel leaves. She plans to purchase seedlings and essential supplies to cultivate this crop. Her plan is to grow betel leaves on a large scale in the future. She can then earn more and strengthen her business. In addition, Janata's priority is to provide a good education to her children and purchase more land for cultivation. She is grateful to BJS and Kiva.
