Maelewano Zomboko Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to restock drinks for her shop.

Maelewano Zomboko Group's story

Elina was born in the late 1960s and is a widow. She is the mother of two sons and two daughters, one of whom is at school. For the past twenty years Elina has made a living running a shop where she sells soft drinks and beer. Her shop is open from 9:00 a.m. to midnight, and from this she is able to make a fair monthly profit.

Elina is one of the six-member group Maelewano Zomboko. The group takes a loan, then holds each other accountable for paying it back. On their behalf she is requesting a 6,350,000 TZS loan, her twentieth, through Kiva partner Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loans, all paid back successfully, to restock her shop with popular drinks for her customers.

With her profits Elina has paid for household expenses. She is also happy and proud that with Kiva's support she has been able to pay college fees for one of her children. In the coming years she looks forward to improving her life and business.
