Maicol Marin's story
Maicol was born in Lima, Peru, and lives in the Villa Esperanza neighborhood of Carabayllo with his parents, who moved from Huanuco (in the Peruvian mountains) to the capital in search of better opportunities. His mother has an informal business making and selling bread, and his father helps out with that business since he cannot find other work due to his chronic ulcers. Maicol sometimes drives a motorcycle taxi, which earns him just barely enough to help out economically at home. Without the support of Kiva lenders, he would have to stop studying in order to work. Maicol wants to finish his degree and possibly continue to specialize so that he can work at a prestigious company and help his parents economically. He is grateful for the support that Kiva lenders provide to him and to all the young people who want to get ahead through the opportunity to study.
