Djekafo Group's story
Djekafo is a group of women from Koury, who live in large traditional families with their husbands, children and other relatives. They average 49 years of age and have at least five children each. This group of women buy and sell a variety of products such as fabrics, condiments, ingredients for restauration activities, milk and others. In order to expand their businesses, the members decided to join Soro Yiriwaso's loan program. They are on their eighth group loan cycle. Oumou, who is sitting on the far right of the photo, sells pure mild. She is planning to use her loan to buy containers of milk as and when she sells them, on a retail basis to a mixed customer base. She gets this milk from Peulhs in the villages surrounding Koury. While the other members of the Djekafo group expect to make an average monthly profit of 120,000FCFA each during this cycle, Oumou expects to make 125,000FCFA. As well as using their income to repay their loans, they also use part of it to cover personal expenses and expand their businesses; They would like to reinforce their partnership with Soro Yiriwaso so that they do not run out of stock.
