Mikocheni Group's story

Rose is a member of Mikocheni Group who has made her living, since 1974, by selling charcoal. Rose is known for being a mother to this group; she encourages the members to work hard and repay their loans accordingly. If not for Rose, this group could be dead, because she know how to manage her group members and sometimes she makes the payment for others. Rose, who was born mid-1950's, is a widow and has four grown children. She is living with her three grand kids that are enrolled in school. She opens her charcoal store from 08 am to 06 pm per working day, and is able to make a very good monthly profit. Rose also has a chips business with fried meats. She has a helpers in her all businesses. From Tujijenge Tanzania, Rose is requesting another loan which she will use to buy stock for all her businesses (a sack of Irish potatoes, meat and charcoal). With her previous loans, all of which were paid back successfully, Rose maintained her business stock. She received a profit which she used to pay for her grand kids school fees and family welfare. She dreams of improving her businesses. She will share this loan with her loan group, ” MIKOCHENI”, which totals seven members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
