A loan helped to buy a new 3 gauge knitting machine for her workshop.

Ana's story

Ana is a single mother who lives with her 2 children and visually impaired father in “Luz y Alegria,” a community for blind people and their families in Arequipa, Peru. Ana opened her knitting workshop in this community and she is providing work to people of the community so that they can support their families. Currently, Ana’s workshop produces mostly hand knit garments. Ana is well known for her creativity; she is always coming up with new hand knit designs. She has also thought of different ways to use the scraps and leftovers from garments to make new hand knit creations. Ana shows great initiative and passion for her work. Ana is now looking to expand her workshop’s possibilities so she is requesting a loan of $1100.00. She wants to buy a new gauge 3 knitting machine so that she can expand her knowledge and move beyond hand knitting to begon producing more garments. She will start with a 3 gauge machine because it is most similar to the kind of knitting she does by hand. Ana is sure that once she is trained with this machine, she can pass on her knowledge to the other people she works with. She wants to be able to provide work to her whole group of workers all year round. Ana has received a loan in the past. About a year ago, she asked for help to buy a sewing machine so that she could do linking of the garments she was working on. She paid back the loan in full, and on time. Ana has high hopes for the future of her workshop. She wants to continue growing and providing work to the people of her community. Buying the gauge 3 knitting machine is a great first step for her.
