Maria Agustina's story
Maria is a 44 year old woman, very dedicated to her family, determined, married and mother of 3 children who are in different grades of primary school. Together with her husband she works in agriculture, sowing and cultivating coffee, her property is very well located at ten minutes from the house where she lives, which she gets to on foot daily, so she can keep it well-maintained to have a better quality of production. She learnt this work since she was young, as it was her parents who taught her to work in the fields. She is also very dedicated to her family and home, and daily she rises very early to do the housework as she also has to get her children ready to take them to school, as her priority is the future of her children. Maria didn't go to school, as she preferred to work in the fields. Her dreams are to continue growing coffee, and to be able to diversify and increase her income so that her family can live in better conditions and to give her children all they need, and always support them in their studies. To maintain her coffee crop she needs to buy fertilizers; manure, liquid fertilizer, herbicides and fungicides, etc, and this is why she she is seeking financial support from the KIVA investors, and she doesn't have sufficient financial resources to help her coffee crop and get an excellent harvest at the end of the season.
