Elina Cleofa's story
The San Patricio credit group meets every two weeks in the Cuba neighborhood of the city of Manta, a city known for its beautiful beaches which are very popular during every season of the year. It is also known for being a city with an unequaled beauty and many tourist attractions. Señora Elina lives in this place. She is 44 years old and lives in a common-law relationship. She has two children, ages 15 and 21, from her relationship. The older child is a university student and the younger is in high school. Her partner is a maker of fine furniture. Doña Elina and her partner have a fine furniture workshop where the entire family works. They create every type of furniture. While her partner and child shape the wood, she is in charge of making the upholstery so that the furniture has a beautiful finish matching the customers’ tastes. They have been doing this for more than twenty years, and it is how they are getting ahead. She is going to use this loan to buy wood, paints, tapestry fabric, and many other supplies to make furniture. She has been a part of the credit group from the beginning and she likes it because the loans improve her workshop. Her dream is to get ahead.
