Djekafo Group's story
Married and mostly living in monogamous households, the 10 members of the Djekafo group have an average age of 33 and, on average, 5 children. They all live in Lafiabougou, one of the districts of Bamako, and got to know each other via neighbourly relationships and their business activities at the Lafiabougou market. The group members are small retailers of condiments (onions, tomatoes, potatoes, fish), groundnut paste, gas, drinks and clothing. The group members decided to work with Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase their businesses and are on their 1st group loan. Alimata (sitting second from the left in the picture) is a large resellers of condiments (onions, tomatoes, potatoes, fish). She plans to use her loan to buy 3 baskets of tomatoes, 5 bags of onions, 20 kilos of smoked fish and 3 bags of potatoes in Bamako. She makes her sales at the market and on the streets to a retail clientèle mostly made up of women. Thanks to this loan, Alimata hopes to make an average monthly profit of 40 000 francs which will be reinvested in her business and used to take care of the household's small needs.
