Sabougnouman Group's story
The six members of the Sabougnouman group all live in monogamous families. On the average, they are 41 years old, with four children. They all live in the Darsalam neighborhood of Segou (the fourth administrative district of Mali). They know each other as neighbors, relatives by blood or marriage or through their work in Darsalam. They work as vendors selling condiments, clothing, cereals and cooked dishes. With the goal of bolstering their working capital, the group members have decided to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso and are on their 12th solidarity loan cycle. Mrs. Bah (the second one standing from right to left in the photo) is a well-known vendor of all sorts of condiments in the Darsalam neighborhood and nearby. She plans to use her loan to buy large quantities of various condiments in order to meet customer demand. She sells for cash and often on credit to a mixed clientele. With this loan, Mrs. Bah hopes to earn an average monthly revenue of 60,000 West African francs, which will be used to partially take care of family expenses as well as to increase her working capital.
