Mallikarjuna- Herkal Group's story
Parvati is based in Herakall village, Bagalkot, Karnataka. Her name is the name of a goddess and wife of Lord Shiva. A few years back Parvati joined a local NGO called “Future Greens.” Earlier, she was hesitant to take loan from this NGO. After completing the training conducted by them on sheep and goat rearing, her confidence got boosted and she started a dairy farm. Parvati is seeking a loan to purchase a buffalo for her dairy farm. An additional buffalo will give up to eight liters of milk per day. She sells milk at 18 to 20 Rs per liter every day. She and her husband also work in agriculture as laborers. She has three children: two sons are laborers in agriculture fields and a daughter is married. Her family is basically dependent on agriculture. Parvati (the lady who is standing with raised hand) is the president of “Mallikarjuna” Joint Liability Group (JLG), which consists of five members. Agriculture and farming is the main source of income and they all are toilers like Parvathi. They all are seeking additional capital to expand their businesses. Parvati and her fellow group members are hoping to get good profits and that their children get good educations and jobs in the future.
