A loan helped to buy supplies to maintain his plants.
Chuajuyub Group's story
Diego, the first person from the left in the picture, is 58 years old. He is single and lives with his four children in Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan, in Sololá. Diego says his business is growing 'maxan' (the plant calathea lutea). Its leaves are used to wrap and preserve food, so this plant is a profitable product. He learned this work from his parents and it is also something that he enjoys doing and that allows him to make a good income. The profits help him contribute to his household's economy. He has been in this business ever since he was a child, so by now he is very knowledgeable about it. That is why one day he decided to form a group in order to diversify his products on the market and obtain higher incomes for all the members of the group and their families. They will use the loan to buy supplies to maintain their plants. His dream is to buy a plot of land to expand his business so that he can offer his customers a higher volume of product.
