Abdul's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 48-year-old Abdul from Masuba, Makeni northern area in Sierra Leone. He began his business because he wants to generate a permanent source of income to support his family. He is hardworking and desires to educate his children. Abdul runs a building materials business within a busy market area; he sells cement, zinc, nails and door locks. He has been running this business since 1999. He works at the business from 7:00am until 6:00pm, 6 days per week. Abdul says that the main challenge to his business is that transporting his goods is very difficult and there is high competition in the market.
