A loan helped to buy condiments.
Benkadi Group's story
The 8 women of the Benkadi group all live in monogamous families. They have an average age of 29 and, on average, 2 children. They all live in Médine, one of the district of Ségou (the 4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They got to know each other through neighbourly, family and local business relationships and marriage. They sell condiments, clothing, beauty products and prepared meals. The group members decided to work with Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase their working capital and are on their 1st group loan. Binta (second on the left in the picture) is a large reseller of all sorts of condiments in the district of Médine and the surrounding area. She plans to use her loan to buy a large quantity of condiments so that she can satisfy her customer demand. She makes her sales for cash and often credit to a mostly female clientèle. Binta hopes to make an average monthly profit of 20 000 francs thanks to this loan, which will be used to cover her children's education expenses and to increase her working capital.
