Justine's story

Justine is widowed and has two children, one of whom goes to school. She also takes care of her mother. Justine has a retail shop business and has been in this business for 10 years. She generates additional income from farming. Justine works in the shop seven days out of every week and sells on both a retail and wholesale basis. Her major business challenges include seasonality and defaulters. She aspires to own a supermarket and also to sell at wholesale only. Justine has applied for a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan shilling from MCDT-SACCO to buy more bags of sugar, cartons of salt, boxes of blue band margarine, wheat flour, boxes of mineral water, and jerrycans of cooking oil. She decided to join MCDT-SACCO because they are cooperative. Justine resides in the family house and the family has access to electricity but not to piped water. Her monthly expenses include rent for her business and school fees for her last born child.
