Jiguiya Group's story
The four members of the group JIGUIYA are married women, who average 32 years of age and three children each. The women lives for the most part in traditional families in HAMDALLAYE, a working-class district in Sikasso City (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are on their 14th loan with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to meet the needs of their customers. Ms. MAIMOUNA does commerce in clothing (used) in this group of women. She is first at the right in the photo. She intends to use her loan to purchase 2 bales of secondhand clothing in Sikasso. She makes her sales retail to a customer base composed of men and women paying with cash or credit at the house or at the market. She envisions making an average monthly profit of 32,500 francs CFA. Part of the profits is used to pay back the loan with interest, and the other part goes toward her savings.
