Yeredon Group's story
Yeredon is a group in the Siguidaton association in the Bamananking neighbourhood of Ouelessebougou. The group is made up of four women who know each other through being relations and neighbours. They have an average age of 27 and are all married, with one child on average. The group members are all involved in different businesses, such as selling beauty products, like Oumou who is pictured standing third from the left. The women live in large traditional families in Ouelessebougou in the Kati prefecture (in the Koulikoro region in the Republic of Mali). They have all been running small businesses for several years and are highly sought-after for the beauty products they sell: perfumes, bracelets, earrings, soap, ointment, etc. In order to satisfy growing customer demand, the members of the group have decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance programme. This is their second solidarity loan. Oumou will use her loan to buy two boxes of perfumes and two dozen pots of cream and ointment. She buys her supplies in Bamako and locally and sells her products to individuals in Ouelessebougou, both for cash and on credit, to a customer base that includes both men and women. Oumou hopes to make 21 000 CFA francs per month, which will allow her to repay the loan and reinvest in her business buying and selling beauty products.
