Maa Thakurani Shg Group's story
The "Maa Thakurani SHG" (self help group) is made up of eleven members. All of them are from one of the small villages of Sonepur district of Odisha state, India. All the women met because they are from the same village and community and chose to get a loan in a mutually supportive group, and in that way be able to help themselves economically to invest in their different businesses. Himadri, who is the President of the group and has the responsibility of making the payments on time, has an economic activity involving cultivating and selling vegetables. In picture the lady standing with her hand raised is Himadri. She wakes up very early to pluck the vegetables from the plants so she can sell fresh vegetables in market to satisfy her customers. She wants the funding to invest in her business in purchasing a higher quality of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland. The other members of this group are engaged in different livelihood activities like fish-selling, grocery shop, food stall, etc. All the members are very happy and thankful to KIVA for this great support.
