Umoja Kibabi Group's story
Nyamwiruki is a courageous, dynamic, woman entrepreneur. She has been a trader for twenty years, and is a member of the business group 'Umoja Kibabi'. She is sixty-six years old, divorced and mother to several children who are all grown up and married. Nyamwiruki looks after six of her grandchildren who have been orphaned. All of these children currently attend school. Nyamwiruki sells tomatoes from a stall in the local market. She has requested this loan from the field partner, Hekima, in order to expand her business. She will use the money to buy ten baskets of tomatoes for resale. Her business was started with money that she received from a friend. In the future, she would like to increase her working capital, educate, clothe and feed her grandchildren. She is very grateful to Hekima for the support they offer to non-bankable, women entrepreneurs, by providing unguaranteed loans. This is especially important during this time of conflict in the east of the country.
