Eduardo's story

Eduardo lives in Totolapan with his wife Petra and their two children. The house they live in is the hard work and savings of almost 5 years. They thought not having a proper cement floor as well as proper doors and windows wouldn't be a problem, but after these years they now know that winters can be very cold and summers very hot without these things. They have also seen that their youngest son has developed respiratory diseases and has a lot of trouble to breathe normally during winter. Eduardo works with livestock and makes around USD $500 a month. He has been saving for the last couple of months but is asking for a loan to finish buying the materials he needs to install a proper floor, doors and windows to his house. Eduardo's job is informal with no way of proving his income, so accessing credit is a challenge. Eduardo will work in the house and a certified technician will supervise the work to make sure it meets the quality and safety standards. Eduardo and Petra look forward to the day their kids can play on the floor and they can lock the doors at night.
