Sabougnouman Group's story
The four women of the Sabougnouman group are married and live in polygamous households. They are on average 42 years old and have four children. They all live in the N’gara village in the Ségou region (4th administrative region in the republic of Mali). They know each other through connections between neighbors, family, and marriage, as well as through their businesses in the village. They are in the small business of seasonings and grains. In the goal of increasing their business funds, the group members decided to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso and are on their sixth group loan. Mrs. Oumou (first woman seated on the left) is a big seller of all sorts of seasonings in the N’gara village and its surrounding areas. She plans to use her loan to buy a large quantity of all kinds of seasonings. She sells for cash and often for credit from home and traveling to a clientele composed mostly of women. Mrs. Oumou hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 38,000 FCFA with this loan, which will be used to pay for the needs of her children and to increase her business funds.
