A loan helped to buy millet for resale.

Benkadi Group's story

The four women from this Benkadi group all live in polygamous families. They have an average age of 48 and on average, five children. They all live in the village of N’gara in the region of Ségou (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They know each other through being neighbors, relatives, in-laws and through their money-earning activities in the village. They have little businesses selling cereals and cooked food. Wishing to grow their working capital, the members of the group decided to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso and are on their fourth solidarity loan. Madame Djelika (the second woman standing left to right in the photo) sells a lot of millet in the village of N’gara and surrounding areas. She intends to use her loan to buy five sacks of millet. Her sales are made for cash and often for credit to a mixed clientele. Madame Djelika hopes to make an average monthly profit of 37,000 F CFA with this loan. Her profit will be used equally to pay school fees for her children and to grow her working capital.
