Lesbia Maria's story
Lesbia, age 61, is a single mother with grown-up children. She comes from Nagarote, a place located in the western part of the country. She is known for being hardworking and responsible, with a desire to improve herself. Unfortunately, as a child she wasn’t able to study due to a lack of financial resources. These days she keeps fighting to be able to survive. With many economic obstacles that come to block her path, she struggles to be able to overcome them day by day. Thanks to her efforts and her desire to get ahead, she runs a small “pulpería”--a small store that sells groceries in small amounts, such as rice, beans, sugar, milk, bread, detergent, soap, matches, juice, and soda. She works some twelve hours a day in her business, offering her products so that in the not-so-distant future she can earn a better income. The goal of her loan is to invest in working capital and stock her business buying and selling groceries so that in the not-so-distant future she can have a better income.
