Martha Fabiola's story
Martha is a married woman of 59 years of age. Thanks to the sacrifice of her parents, she was able to finish elementary school before the lack of financial resources brought her to work to be able to provide the necessities of life. Despite having a job that demanded much of her time and strength, Martha did not neglect to educate and support her daughters, who are now 35 and 37 years old. Now, Martha lives with her husband in the city of Latacunga, located in the province of Cotopaxi in the Republic of Ecuador. In the center of the city, they live in a house they inherited from Martha's mother-in-law. They have been there for many years now. Martha, in light of a lack of financial resources in her home, decided to make a living selling silver jewelry. She also is very skilled at making costume jewelry. This has served her to help maintain her house since her husband is retired and the little income he gets cannot sustain them. Today, Martha is requesting a loan to invest in the construction of a bathroom in her house. Furthermore, in the future, Martha would like to run her business from her own shop so that she can reach more clients who want her products. Martha is grateful to Fundación Alternativa in Ecuador and to Kiva for making possible this growth in her work and personal life.
