Gulbairakan's story

Gulbairakan is 48 years old, a widow, and has three children. For a very long time after the death of her husband, Gulbairakan was unable to survive the loss of her loved one. It was necessary to educate and get the children on their feet, and Gulbairakan decided to take the homestead and material responsibility in her hands.

She is helped in this by her children. The elder son Tolkunbek is 25 years old; he helps his mother around the homestead: prepares hay and water for the livestock; and conducts veterinary activities twice a year to avoid the loss of livestock. The middle daughter Meerimkul is 27 years old; she is divorced, lives with her mother, and also helps around the homestead: milks the cows; and sells milk to wholesalers. And the younger son earns additionally in building - as a private construction work. The family is friendly and follows a single goal.

Gulbairakan has been involved in breeding livestock since 1995, having begun this business with 5,000 som KGS. Thanks to her tireless work and endurance to date, she receives a monthly income of15,000 som KGS. On her homestead, Gulbairakan has: five dairy cows, one calf, six sheep and four goats. With the aim of increasing her count of livestock, Gulbairakan turned to the microfinance bank Bai-Tushum and Partners for a loan - to purchase calves for further breeding.

With the income from the loan, Gulbairakan plans to increase her livestock count, and also to improve the family's material well-being.
