Jigiya Group's story
The members of the group JIGIYA are married women, who average 35 years of age and five children each, all living in polygamous families FAKOLA, a prefecture in the 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali. The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their work at any moment. They are on their first loan with the institution. Ms. AWA (first at the left in the photo) intends to use her loan to purchase 3 packets of condiments. She makes her sales each day in FAKOLA and is much in demand, especially on market days. She plans on making an average monthly profit of 20,000 francs CFA. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help out her husband in covering day-to-day expenses.
